Luis Corrons grew up in South Florida and developed his passion for flying at age 8, when he took his first airplane flight aboard a Pan Am DC6-B. Watching airplanes takeoff and land from MIA, he soon realized that he wanted to be an airline pilot.
He learned to fly at the new Tamiami Airport starting in 1969 and graduated from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University with a degree in Aeronautical.
Luis started his professional flying career as a Flight Instructor at Opa-Locka Airport and also flying DC-6Bs to Central and South America out of MIA. In 1977, he moved to Houston, Texas in search of a more stable flying environment. Initially he flew for a charter operator out of Hobby Airport and then moved up to MU-2J and finally a corporate position as a co-pilot on a DA-20, Falconjet where he obtained his ATP and his first type rating.
Luis then went to work for Boeing as a ground instructor on B-727 and B-737 classic aircraft. An offer as Co-pilot on a corporate B-737-200 took him back to Houston a few years later.
Being type rated on the B737 got him a job offer from People Express, a low cost operator based in EWR as a B737 First Officer. Within a year, at age 30, he was a captain on a B727. In addition to line flying duties, he also worked as a B727 Simulator Instructor. Five years later, the company was merged with Continental Airlines and he was fortunate enough to retain his Captain's seat on the Boeing.
In 1988, a small package operator offered a Captain's position on a B-757. He's held positions of Simulator Instructor, Check Airman, Line Check Airman and Long Range Navigation Check Airman on the B-767. In addition, he was on the initial team to introduce the Airbus A300-600F, working as Simulator Instructor, Line Check Airman and Aircrew Program Designee.
Other positions include Assistant Chief Pilot, Domicile Chief Pilot, Fleet Chief Pilot A300, Fleet Training Manager B757/767 and Project Pilot on the Airbus A380.
With over 10,000 hours, he currently holds an ATP with type ratings on DA-20, B727, B737, B757/767 and A310 aircraft. In addition, he holds Flight Instructor Certificates, Single and Multiengine, Instruments.
